Who We Are
Global Presence
Sanaa Kama Biashara (“SKB”) is a community of creatives co-operating to commercialize their talents.
It is a multifaceted capacity building program tailored for creatives in performing and visual arts sub-sectors in the Kenyan coastal region. SKB’s overall objective is to promote youth engagement and economic sustainability by supporting young creatives in professionalizing their talents and crafts, building sustainable creative enterprises, and monetizing their art. Whilst the program primarily targets talented creatives aged between 10 to 35 years, it is open to all creatives operating in any of the six coastal Counties of Kenya.
Objectives
SKB’s primary objectives are as follows:
- Offering entrepreneurship and upskilling trainings through capacity building programs including but not limited to; business formalization, intellectual property, contracts management, financial management and marketing.
- Enhance creatives’ careers by facilitating revenue generating activities, mentorship, networking opportunities, industry insights, and portfolio building.
- Nurturing younger creatives in high schools, by guiding them towards viable careers in the arts through art competition and events via tailored SKB programs.
- Fostering collaboration and stakeholders engagement within the local performing arts scene: by encouraging partnerships, interdisciplinary collaborations, and interactions with policymakers and industry stakeholders.
WHAT GAP ARE WE TRYING TO FILL?
The Kenyan Coastal region is a vibrant hub of artistic talent spanning various forms, yet numerous artists face formidable challenges that impede their ability to fully unleash their creativity and establish sustainable careers. These challenges though varied, collectively create a complex barrier for artists to thrive.
A prevailing societal perception that art lacks economic viability deters many creatives from seeking formal training and fully committing to professionalizing their craft.
- Out of the Kenyan coast, help talented artists to be discovered and increase distribution for all Kenyan creatives
- Provide logistical assistance to creatives to organize and put on their own events with revenue-generating potential for all participating creatives and sectors servicing the creatives
- Facilitating ease of access to professionals such as lawyers, promoters, producers, accountants etcetera
- Provide business support and market linkages for coastal creatives
Our Mission
To grow knowledgeable and skilled Kenyan coastal creatives able to commercialize their art globally by creating strong and well-known brands for creative output from the Kenyan coastal region.
Our Vision
Actualize the stated economic potential of the Kenyan creative economy, building a thriving creative economy in the 6 coastal Counties with massive stimulus effect on all other economic sectors, uplifting the economic profiles of hardworking residents from poverty.
